Age: 1845, The labelling of the Antarctic and Tasmania date this globe's manufacture to between the discovery of Wilkes Land in 1842 and the naming of Tasmania in 1846.
Condition: The globe is in good condition and is very clear and easy to read. The box is in good shape and of more recent date.
Description: A fine
miniature terrestrial globe made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved
gores. the equator and prime meridian graduated in degrees, the latter
running through Iceland, the ecliptic ungraduated, the continents
delicately outlined in orange, green yellow, red and purple, and showing
rivers, mountains and some cities, Antarctica and Wilk Ld shown,
Tasmania labelled v. Diemens L. with brass axis pins in square fruitwood
box secured by a brass hook and eye, the lid applied with a
hand-coloured engraved cartouche depicting three students with two
globes and a map with foliate decoration surround.
