Diameter 30 cm, total height 57 cm. 1857. This is a beautiful globe with a beautiful turned ebonised foot. The horizontal part of the foot has wormholes (not active). There are no damages on the globe worth mentioning. The globe has aged beautifully and has a very nice patina.
The globe is made up of twelve coloured printed paper gores and two large polar calottes, the equator graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days, the oceans showing ocean currents, ship routes and submarine telegraph cable line, the continents with nation states, variously and delicately coloured and showing rivers, mountains and other details. The borders of the South pole were unknown at the time. Only the upper north and lower south part of Africa are divided into countries. Parts of Africa were yet to be discovered.
The globe is made by J. Felkl & Sohn. Der Globus, Bearbeitet von Prof. Otto Delitsch in Leipzig, Fabrik J. Felkl & Sohn, Rostok bei Prag, 1857.
